San Marco is the smallest and most central of the six sestieri, and the one most visitors mean when they say Venice.
The Basilica, consecrated in 1094, the Palazzo Ducale and the Campanile, rebuilt in 1912 to almost 99 metres, stand on its eastern edge; the Mercerie, the busiest calle in the city, thread it to the Rialto bridge on the north. We host here on the side calli two turns off that thread, where the shops close at seven and the calle goes quiet.
Why stay in San Marco
Proximity, first of all. Everything in central Venice is within fifteen minutes on foot, and the two vaporetto stops of San Marco Vallaresso and San Zaccaria carry every major line, including the Alilaguna boat from the airport. If your days start early, the Piazza at seven in the morning, before the day visitors land, is the best argument for the sestiere. If they end late, the walk home after dinner in Castello or San Polo is ten minutes over bridges you already know.
Second, the calli themselves. San Marco between Rialto and the Piazza is a grid of narrow streets and small campi that most visitors cross without seeing: Calle dei Baretteri, Calle degli Avvocati, Campo Manin, Corte Coppo. Our apartments sit on these. From the door, the crowds of the Mercerie are a minute away in one direction and invisible in the other.

9 in San MarcoThe Baretteri Romantic Flat and the Baretteri Design Suite are two one-bedroom flats on Calle dei Baretteri, two minutes from the Piazza; the suite is the larger of the two. Cà del Volto is a ground-floor, canal-facing two-bedroom home in a quiet calle between Rialto and San Marco, the one to choose if stairs are a problem. Cà Fortuny, restored in 2025, and the Romantic Canal Apartment, a flat for two, share a canal-side palazzo. Cà Avvocati and Cà Avvocati Top are two flats at the same address on Calle degli Avvocati, the second with a top-floor exposure. The Suite Calle delle Locande and the Suite Veneziana Locande, four minutes from the Piazza on Corte Coppo, are a small suite and a two-bedroom home with a canopy bed.

What a stay here costs
The nightly price is on each apartment page once the season’s rates are published, and on your confirmation for your exact dates. There is no platform service fee on a direct request. The Venice city tax applies per person per night and is stated on the confirmation; our guide to the city tax has the amounts. Guests sleeping in the city do not pay the day-tripper access fee.

Arriving in San Marco
From the airport, the Alilaguna Blue line stops at San Marco in about an hour and a quarter; a water taxi lands you at the nearest canal in thirty minutes. From Santa Lucia station, vaporetto line 1 along the Grand Canal reaches Rialto in about twenty minutes and San Marco Vallaresso in about thirty; line 2 is faster with fewer stops. How far are the apartments from Piazza San Marco?
Two to four minutes on foot. The Baretteri flats are on Calle dei Baretteri, two minutes from the Piazza; the Locande suites are four minutes; Cà del Volto, Cà Fortuny and Cà Avvocati sit between Rialto and San Marco.
Is San Marco noisy at night?
The Mercerie and the Piazza empty after eleven. Our apartments are one calle off the main routes, on calli where the loudest sound after dark is the water. Ask for a canal-facing flat if you want the quietest option.
Which vaporetto stops serve San Marco?
San Marco Vallaresso and San Zaccaria for lines 1 and 2 and the Alilaguna airport boat, Rialto for lines 1 and 2 on the Grand Canal. Every apartment is within five minutes of at least one of them.
What is the minimum stay?
